Chernobyl Children International funds and manages a wide range of vital programmes to benefit children affected by the terrible legacy of Chernobyl.
With the help of thousands of volunteers in Ireland and worldwide and the generous support of individual and corporate donors, we maintain:
- A Medical Programme that offers life-saving operations and equipment, therapeutic care, mental health treatment, dental and hospice care
- A Rest and Recuperation Programme that gives thousands of children recuperative holidays in Ireland, pairing them with loving, host families
- A Building and Construction Programme that provides orphanages, mental asylums, independent living facilities, community day-care centres and loving foster homes
- A De-Institutionalisation Programme that takes children and youth out of institutional settings and places them in a variety of caring homes within the community, including foster homes, hospice care and supported independent living
- An Aid Direct Programme that allows the people of Belarus, Northern Ukraine and Western Russia to decide the best use of funds to bring their dying communities to life
- Awareness campaigns to draw global attention to the ongoing suffering of the Children of Chernobyl, including presentations to the UN, fundraising event support, documentaries and books, school visits and school information packs
- Research activities to monitor ongoing developments in this unprecedented environmental disaster, and to discover innovative, life-saving treatments for its victims
