'Blues Aid' Concert to raise funds for CCPI & Barnardos
Blues Aid, a charity event in support of Barnardos and Chernobyl Children's Project International, will take place at The Pavillion, Carey's Lane, Cork 8.30pm Friday 5th December. The event will see on stage Boston-based Blues harmonica legend SUGAR RAY NORCIA of SUGAR RAY AND THE BLUETONES backed by all-Italian Blues formation based in Cork ALEX ORELLI AND THE BLUESMAKERS. SUGAR RAY NORCIA is a legend in his own right, and one of the hardest working men in the circuit, with a carreer that spans by now over 30 years.
Sugar Ray has great tone and great phrasing, singing and playing the harp. One of my favorites!” (Charlie Musselwhite) “Sugar Ray is the real deal. There is nobody better to represent this music.” (Kim Wilson - The Fabulous Thunderbirds) “His approach to the harp is straight from the heart of Chicago Blues but he’s not just recycling Little Walter licks. Ray is clever and innovative and he knows how to be flashy without overdoing it.” (David B. Watts- The Daily Hampshire Gazzette)
As for the Bluesmakers: they are guitarist Alex Orelli, whose main influence is Ronnie Earl, backed by Emiliano on the piano who embodies much Dr. John, professor Longhair and Pete Johnson and Bach at one time; Arcangelo “Archie” Spina on bass who’s a powerhouse; well, they’re quite a bunch of musicians. Surprise Drummer flown from Italy just for this show… watch this space! Proceedings will go to Barnardos and Chernobyl Children's Project International, a night of world-class Blues not to be missed.
Doors open at 8.30pm. We are certain the event will be a great musical experience for all blues lovers!
