Rose of Tralee Charmaine Kenny to launch Kilkenny FUN Cycle

The current Rose of Tralee Charmaine Kenny will launch the Cork to Kilkenny FUN Cycle on Saturday 10th of April at MacDonagh House Square at Workhouse Square MacDonagh Station, MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre. The cycle, organised by the Kilkenny Outreach Group, takes place on the 5th and 6th of June 2010. Charmaine will be joined by Kilkenny Mayor Malcolm Noonan, Kilkenny hurlers Michael Rice, Jackie Tyrell and Eoin Larkin at MacDonagh Station and there will be music from All Ireland Talent Show Finalists Na Fianna. The launch party will run from 2 - 4pm with lots of surprises in store for all in attendance!

Monday, 26th April 2010 will mark the 24th Anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. In recognition of this anniversary, Chernobyl Children’s Project International will once again roll out National Chernobyl Week (26th April to 2nd May) to commemorate and honour the children and adults who live with social, economic and medical deprivation as a result of the disaster which happened 24 years ago.

Vesnova Children's Mental Asylum recieves award

Chernobyl Children’s Project International is delighted to announce Vesnova Children’s Mental Asylum has been voted the best orphanage for children with special needs due to its great living conditions and high level of medical service. The award is the result of a review by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and the Republic Committee of Trade Unions. The review was carried out on more than 70 social institutions in Belarus.

The Door - Oscar nominated short film

Oscar nominated short film The Door is an emotional and beautifully told story of a man and his family dealing with the terrible aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster. The film was made in Chernobyl contaminated lands by Juanita Wilson and James Flynn.
