Education and Awareness
“Our mission must be to awaken a worldwide realization that the earth is our common home, a beautiful grain of life, in the depths of the universe, having become so fragile in the hands of man” (Adi Roche)
A fundamental part of the work of CCPI is the raising of awareness of the Chernobyl disaster and its ongoing consequences. With the passing of time it is becoming increasingly challenging to keep the Chernobyl disaster and its aftermath to the forefront of the public mindset. Adi Roche, Founder & Executive Director, CCPI along with the staff and volunteers, continue to undertake education and awareness campaigns to ensure that the victims and survivors of the Chernobyl disaster are not forgotten. Through our work with schools and general awareness-raising, the charity aims to inform on the devastating consequences of nuclear power as an energy source and its harmful impact on the environment, on food and water and on people’s health.
Due to her vast experience and knowledge of radiation Adi Roche is a government appointee on the board of the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland (RPII), the State organisation concerned with hazards to health from radioactive contamination of the environment. RPII has regulatory, monitoring and advisory responsibilities in matters pertaining to radiation.
As International Executive Director of the Chernobyl Children’s Project International Adi Roche continues to carry out a large number of public engagements, both nationally and internationally, in her efforts to raise awareness of, and support for the victims and survivors of the Chernobyl disaster. Her focus, as always, remains the children of Chernobyl.
As part of this programme CCPI visit schools, produce videos and documentaries, publish books. The organisation has also assisted in the production of an award-winning CD-ROM about the life of Svetlana, a Belarusian woman living her life in the world’s most radioactive environment
