Schools/Education
Schools Programme
Since our establishment in the early 90s founder and Executive Director Adi Roche has placed a huge emphasis on heightening awareness of the Chernobyl disaster among school students. Visiting schools throughout Ireland and abroad and giving presentations is an integral part of this programme.
During these presentations students will learn facts about Chernobyl the main sequence of events leading up to the disaster, the Chernobyl disaster itself, what radiation is and the devastating effects the disaster has had on the people of Belarus. Also as part of the presentation we voice the benefits of using alternative sources of energy and we also explain the dangers of using nuclear power as an energy source.
Following these visits many of the schools undertake fundraising drives for CCPI and a large number of the students go on to become committed volunteers of the organisation. In addition, CCPI remain in close contact with hundreds of schools throughout Ireland, providing teachers and students with information packs and supplying other educational resources on the Chernobyl disaster. CCPI also operate a work experience programme, whereby students work at our Cork office and develop their personal, social and working skills.
