What You Can Do

Claiming Tax on Your Donations

The Chernobyl Children’s Project International is a designated charity – a status awarded under the provisions of Section 848 of the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997. This status means that tax relief can be obtained on donations to the Chernobyl Children’s Project International from individuals or companies. The donations must equal or be in excess of €250 for the tax year.

Tax payers fall into two categories for the purposes of tax relief on charitable donations and are dealt with by the Revenue in different ways:
  • Irish PAYE tax payers – in this case the Chernobyl Children’s Project International can claim back 20% or 42% on top of the donated amount from the Revenue Commissioners and we do this by submitting the CHY2 form completed by you. When you return the form to us we then claim back that tax that you have already paid on your donation. The form CHY2 can be downloaded from the Revenue website or requested from the CCPI office in Cork.
  • Self-employed tax payers or companies – in this case it is the tax payer that might claim the donation as a business expense against their tax liability for the year, for more details, please contact your tax adviser. If you are a donor in this category you can use our letter as your donation receipt for your accounting records.
